With camping season fast approaching, it’s time to dust off my checklist and make sure I have everything set for a relaxing retreat to nature. And I’ve just read a Globe and Mail article that’s added one item to my shopping list: the Platypus Platypreserve Wine Preservation System from Mountain Equipment Co-op. $8 gets you a light-weight, reusable, 800mL bladder that preserves your wine by eliminating exposure to oxygen. So whether you want to sip merlot around the campfire or are unable to finish a bottle at home (ha, not likely), the Platypus is a must-have gadget that’s getting rave reviews.
A Little Mood Music
Music can evoke such emotion. Hearing a song from my junior high school era plunks me right back into the bobbing waves of teenage angst, and listening to the Braveheart soundtrack reminds me of falling in love with my husband. I often make music mixes to serve a given purpose: encourage an intense workout, get through housework, drag myself out of a funk, set the mood for a romantic evening, or start the day off on a positive note. Here are some great new mood elevators, perfect for breaking a sweat or doing the dishes.

The Tracy Anderson Method
I first heard about Tracy Anderson a few years ago through Gwyneth Paltrow’s newsletter, GOOP. Say what you will about GP but that girl (who’s 38 and the mother of two young children) has a hot body and she credits it to her personal trainer, Tracy Anderson. The Tracy Anderson Method is a combination of dance-cardio moves and what Anderson calls “muscular structure work”, and other celebrity enthusiasts (and fabulous figures) include Jennifer Lopez, Nicole Richie, Stella McCartney and Madonna. Months after putting it on hold, it was my turn to check out Anderson’s new book, Tracy Anderson's 30-day Method, care of the Vancouver Public Library. I really like the unique moves and do my best to get through the challenging workouts (although some of them just make me laugh). And I'm expecting my very own copy, which comes with an exercise DVD, in the mail any day now.
